Bursaries: Making Nature Education Accessible
Over half of our 1200+ youth participants need bursary support annually!
With your Walkalong donations:
- YOU will make it possible for children to travel to Galiano.
- YOU will give children their first experiences in nature – from camping with their friends, to hiking among 100+ year old trees or finding their first sea star.
- YOU will inspire young environmental stewards and climate-action leaders!
Watch Maia Green, Grade 8 teacher at Esquimalt Middle School explain how bursaries made her class’s 2018 trip to Galiano possible.

Attend the Walkalong
Join us on Saturday, August 28th at the Millard Learning Centre (10825 Porlier Pass Road) for the event. Get serenaded by acoustic musicians as you walk along scenic coastal bluffs and through the beautiful permaculture Food Forest garden. Learn about local fauna & flora, sustainable food and climate action with GCA environmental interpreters and watch live painters along the way! Enjoy yummy ice cream, food, drinks (19+) and more as you listen to live mainstage headliners at the Celebration after you walk the musical trail.
If you are a Peer-to-Peer fundraiser on a one-time donor, you will need to register for the walk separately. Click the button below to purchase tickets. Fixed & sliding scale ticket prices available (and, yes, fundraisers can enter $0 on the sliding scale ticket).

Zita and Mark Bernstein Family Foundation
I am delighted to be able to support the GCA’s 2021 Walkalong through the Zita and Mark Bernstein Family Foundation.
My involvement with the GCA dates back to the early 1990s – when thanks to Rose Longini’s organization and hospitality -I was able to join baroque violinist Monica Huggett in several benefit concerts for the GCA. These were the highlights of my admittedly very short performing career, and it has been wonderful to follow the Conservancy’s amazing work since then.
The Zita and Mark Bernstein Family Foundation is named after my parents, and was established in 2019 through a bequest of my late father. The Foundation’s mandate is broad, but my two sisters and I share a commitment to charities that support education, the environment/land stewardship, social justice, the performing arts, and quality of life for the elderly.
I wish you all the best for this year’s Walkalong, and look forward to taking part in one when the pandemic has passed!
